The Equation for Freedom, Peace, and Equality
Details
Description
This vibrant mural by Florence Blanchard sits at the edge of Holy Green, just off The Moor in the city centre. It’s bright colours transform a fairly unremarkable pedestrianised street sandwiched between Atkinsons department store and Sainsbury’s; Holy Green is mostly hidden beneath a huge concrete ramp that leads up to a car park, blocking light to the street below. Titled, ‘The Equation for Freedom, Peace, and Equality’, this mural brings new life to the stretch that many walk down to move between Charter Row and The Moor.
The name of the mural borrows from the French motto ‘Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité’. However, it swaps out fraternité (brotherhood) for the more open word ‘peace’.
This artwork was funded by Atkinsons and Sheffield City Council with help from Friends Of Sheffield City Centre.
