Sheffield’s Kelham Island has been named one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world by TimeOut magazine. While not specifically mentioned, we believe the area’s street art is a big contributor to what makes it a great place.

TimeOut ranked Kelham Island 35th out of 51 neighbourhoods from across the world. The area is home to traditional pubs, independent bars, restaurants, shops and cafés. There’s also the street food markets and breweries. These all help give Kelham Island a lively vibe and got the neighbourhood noticed by TimeOut’s team.

Kelham Island has some of the most unique street art in Sheffield. Many of the artworks have been created by artists less commonly associated with the city’s street art scene. For example, the Kelham Arts and Heritage Trail has invited local artists to transform street utility cabinets across the area. Organised by the Kelham Island & Neepsend Community Alliance it has created a trail of artworks to be discovered.

There are also many large murals to be found around Kelham Island by established street artists. These include murals by Bubba 2000, Jo Peel, Kid Acne and Pete McKee. Internationally recognised artists like Phlegm and JupiterFab have also created artworks in the area.
