Mural by Florence Blanchard on Leavy Grave Road opposite the Hicks Building at the University of Sheffield. The mural is a collaboration with CBMNet (Crossing Biological Membranes Network) for the 2016 Festival of the Mind.

This large-scale mural is Florence’s interpretation of a detail of a cell membrane as seen under an electron microscope, having undergone a cryofracture. Cryofracture is the technique where a sample is rapidly frozen and then broken so that it’s structure can be studied.

It’s a colourful addition to Sheffield’s street art scene.
