In the summer of 2016, Sheffield became home to 58 large elephant sculptures designed by local and international artists as part of the Herd of Sheffield exhibition. These sculptures were joined by many more smaller ones, each designed and created by local schools. The event was organised by The Children’s Hospital Charity and Wild in Art.

Some of the elephant sculptures from the event

Each of the large, individually created and designed, elephant sculptures were put to auction in October 2016. An impressive £410,600 was raised for Sheffield Children's Hospital.

The event is long over now, although one or two of the elephants can still be spotted about Sheffield. We have left our pictures of the elephants, and the map of locations, as a reminder of this excellent exhibition and all its creativity.

In 2021, a similar art trail was hosted in the city for The Children’s Hospital Charity. The Bears of Sheffield featured 60 bear sculptures.

The Little Herd

Running alongside the main Herd of Sheffield event, the Little Herd was a collection of smaller elephant calves designed and decorated by local schools.
